Azerbaijan faces Wales

Azerbaijan faces Wales in Baku in an European qualifier from Group E. We will discuss this fixture at the Bakcell Arena in our soccer matches tomorrow. Let’s go!

For Azerbaijan this qualifying campaign have been a pure disaster so far. The team is currently 5th in the group with just one point won so far and five losses from six games played. It’s a tough group, but in Azerbaijan they probably hoped for a little bit better performance.

Azerbaijan’s only point so far came during their home draw with Croatia, which actually surpised a lot of people. In the previous round Nikola Jurcevic’ lads suffered their fifth defeat, losing with 0-1 their visit to Hungary. Mihaly Kornut scored the winner for the hosts after just 10 minutes of playing.

Clearly Azerbaijan will now start preparing for the World Cup qualifiers, but before this they must finish their participation in this campaign. They have two games left – this one and against Slovakia in Trnava.

Wales on the other hand are 4th in the group with 8 points, but the Dragons still have a chance for something better in case they won their next two matches. At this moment the British team is two points behind the third Slovaki and four points behind the second Hungary. On theory, they can finish even second in the group, especially when they have a game in hand compared to Hungary.

In the previous round of the Euro 2020 campaign Wales had a tough home game against Croatia in which they won a point. The match in Cardiff ended with a 1-1 draw. Nikola Vlasic opened the score for the World Cup finalists after just 9 minutes of playing, but the Dragons’ superstar Gareth Bale equalised at the end of the first half.

In our soccer matches tomorrow we believe that Wales will give their all against Azerbaijan on Saturday. The Dragons know that they have a chance to finish better in this group, but only if they record two wins until the end of the qualifying cycle.
