Negotiations for a new deal by Mertens have stalled
Negotiations for a new contract between Napoli’s striker Dries Mertens and club bosses have contracted seriously, Calmacomer said. The club tries to bind the Belgian with a new contract by 2020, but both parties can not agree on the terms of the contract. This has speculated that the golfer could leave San Paolo after the end of the season.
Napoleon President Aurelio De Laurentias urged Mertens to re-submit to abolish his 28m-euro redeeming clause, which applies to teams from abroad. Apparently, however, the proposed conditions do not appeal to the Belgian, who is currently refusing to sign a new contract.
It is thought that Mertens is seriously considering the possibility of changing the situation in the summer. He wants to go to a club from England or Spain, but there is no interest in him. The Belgian has scored 21 goals since the season, although he has been stagnant in the last 5 games without a score.
